Who
is Thomas Berger?
Local musician Thomas Berger, who resides in Womelsdorf with his
wife, Lillian, is the founder of the entertaining Gran’pa’s
Ragtime Piano Show which provides entertainment to local
residents in settings
such as nursing homes, assisted living centers, retirement
communities, hospitals and private parties.
What
Has He Done?
He founded his business, Gran’pa’s Ragtime Piano Show,
four years ago, but has been playing ragtime piano for over twenty-five
years.
He also founded Gran’pa’s Variety Piano Show two
and a half years ago in which he offers his expertise and assistance
to fellow
piano
players. Through this variety show, the piano players are given
the opportunity to play in front of live audiences, allowing them
to
gain experience
and share their music with others. Recently members of Gran'pa's Variety
Piano Show had the opportunity to play on BCTV. Currently it is
in the works to have Gran'pa's Variety Piano Show air regularly
on BCTV starting in 2007.

What is Ragtime?
Ragtime is the earliest form of jazz music
there is, most often played on the piano. It’s most popular years were during
the years 1890 to 1915. Ragtime was then brought back to the lime light
in 1973 when composer Scott Joplin’s, a musical genius rightly named
the “King of Ragtime”, music was used in the movie The
Sting.
